Master Spa maintenance is mostly a short routine done often, plus a few bigger jobs twice a year. This schedule follows the 2026 Twilight Series and Michael Phelps Signature Pro owner's manuals. Heavy use or hard fill water can mean doing some tasks more often.

Tip: some topside panels can remind you. On the 2026 Michael Phelps Signature Pro, for example, the ICON Spa Touch panel can prompt you to clean the cover every 30 days and change the filter every 365 days. See Master Spas topside maintenance reminders.
Balanced water is comfortable and protects the heater, pumps, jets and cover. Test often and make small changes. After a fresh fill, balance pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness first, then add sanitizer. Wait about 15 minutes after each adjustment and test again. Master Clear salt system owners: follow the Master Clear start-up steps instead.

Shop start-up kits, pH and alkalinity balancers and test strips.
Filters keep water clear and protect the pumps and heater. Most current Master Spas use a two-part filter: a pleated outer cartridge with an EcoPur Charge mineral core inside. The EcoPur Charge replaced earlier one-piece mineral cartridges in 2017. The EcoPur set normally goes in the filter port closest to the topside panel.
Most 2025 and newer hot tubs moved to redesigned outer cartridges that don't fit earlier years, but 2025+ Michael Phelps swim spas and some H2X models kept the older ones, so check the Master Spas filter fitment guide before you shop Master Spa hot tub filters or swim spa filters. Start with what you see, hear or smell. These first checks come from the troubleshooting guides in the 2026 Twilight Series owner's manual. If your panel shows a code, look it up on our Master Spa error codes page. Turn off power at the breaker before you open the equipment area.

Your topside sets the temperature, heat mode and filter cycles. Standard or Ready mode holds temperature, while Economy or Rest mode heats mainly during programmed times. Default filtering is generally 4 hours a day. Look up any message in common topside control messages, and when a panel fails, learn how to replace the topside panel and overlay or shop topside control panels.
Master Clear turns salt into a sanitizer that reads like chlorine on a test strip. The 2026 Twilight Series manual approves only Master Clear for Master Spas hot tubs; other salt systems can cause damage the warranty won't cover. The Activation Kit (MCSS ACT HT) fits "salt system ready" models, and the Conversion Kit (MCSS CONV HT) fits hot tubs up to 500 gallons. Reset power once at the GFCI breaker. If it trips again, leave the power off and contact your Master Spas dealer or service company, because repeated tripping can mean a ground fault. If a message or code comes back, look it up on our Master Spa error codes page. Some panels also have a Factory Reset, which returns all keypad settings to factory defaults, so note your settings first.
The 2026 Michael Phelps Signature Pro manual uses the same water ranges and schedule as the 2026 Twilight Series hot tub manual. The main difference is draining: use a submersible sump pump, not the spa drain. See swim spa care.
