Hot Tub & Swim Spa Cover Lifters

A cover lifter makes opening your spa a one-person, few-second job — and by keeping the cover off the ground it protects the vinyl and vapor barrier, so your cover lasts longer.

  • Keeps the cover off the ground — less wear, no puddles
  • Options for hot tubs, swim spas and tight spaces

Cover Parts, Hardware & Upgrades

Keep your existing cover in service, or add an upgrade to the one you're ordering.

Upgrades like the Poly-Shield outer skin, 8-mil vapor barrier, full-length steam stopper and commercial-grade handles are selected while you build your cover — start a custom cover or ask us to add them to an order.

Cover Features Explained

Spa cover spec sheets are full of numbers that don't mean much until someone explains them. Here's what each option actually does — and when it's worth paying for. Every one of these is chosen when you build a custom cover.

Foam core density

1.5 lb or 2.0 lb EPS

The foam core is what actually holds heat in. 1.5 lb density is the energy-efficient standard for most climates. 2.0 lb is commercial grade — denser, stiffer, and noticeably better at holding temperature and resisting sag under snow.

Tapered core

5"→3" (R-20) or 6"→4" (R-28)

The core is thicker in the middle and thinner at the edges so rain, snow and melt run off instead of pooling in the center. The bigger the taper, the higher the R-value and the better it sheds weather — a 6"→4" core is the cold-climate choice.

Vapor barrier

4-mil standard or 8-mil upgrade

A sealed plastic skin wrapped around the foam. This is the part that decides whether your cover stays light or turns into a waterlogged slab — moisture in the foam is the #1 reason covers get too heavy to lift. The 8-mil upgrade is the single best defence against it.

Marine-grade vinyl

UV-treated outer skin

The outer shell that takes all the sun, rain and snow. Marine-grade vinyl is UV-stabilised so it resists fading, cracking and mildew far longer than standard upholstery vinyl.

WeatherShield™

Lighter alternative outer material

An alternative to vinyl: lighter, highly weather-resistant and built to shrug off intense sun and moisture. A good pick for harsh exposure or if you want a cover that is easier to handle day to day.

Steam stopper

Standard ends or full-length

A foam seal that closes the gap along the fold. The hinge is the biggest heat-leak on any cover — a full-length steam stopper runs the entire seam and keeps hot, humid air from escaping right down the middle.

Reinforced hinge

Optional upgrade

The fold is the hardest-working part of the cover and the first place a cheap cover fails. Reinforcement adds material and stitching where the daily bending happens.

Handles

Comfort or commercial-grade rubber

Standard comfort handles are fine for lighter covers. Commercial-grade rubber handles are worth it on bigger covers, on swim spas, or anywhere the cover gets lifted by hand every day.

Locking straps & keyed locks

Four keyed child safety locks

Reinforced straps with keyed locks hold the cover down against wind and — more importantly — form a safety barrier that keeps children and pets out of the water.

Skirt length

5" standard on Master Spas

The flap that hangs down over the cabinet. It seals the gap between cover and shell so wind cannot get underneath and strip heat away. Master Spas covers use a 5" skirt as standard.

Corner radius

6" standard on Master Spas

The curve of each corner. Master Spas cabinets use a 6" corner radius. Getting this right is the difference between a cover that seats flush and one that leaves a heat-leaking gap at every corner.

Fold direction

A→B or B→A

Which way the cover folds when you open it. Set this so the hinge lands where you actually want it — away from your steps, your lifter, or the view.

The short version: if you live somewhere cold or snowy, prioritise the 2.0 lb foam, the 6"→4" taper and the 8-mil vapor barrier — those three do most of the work. Everything else is comfort and longevity. Ask us and we'll spec it for your climate.

Cover Colors & Materials

Choose from the standard assortment in two outer materials. Marine-grade vinyl is the classic UV-treated skin in the widest colour range; WeatherShield™ is a lighter, highly weather-resistant alternative. Colour is selected when you build your cover.

Screens render colour differently and vinyl has texture and sheen that a flat swatch can't show — treat these as a guide, not an exact match. Deciding between two shades? Give us a call or message us and we'll talk you through them — 1-888-946-8882.

How to Measure Your Spa for a Replacement Cover

  1. Length & width (A × B). Measure straight across the top of the cabinet, edge to edge, in both directions.
  2. Corner radius. Master Spas cabinets use a 6" corner radius as standard — check yours matches.
  3. Skirt length. The flap that hangs down the cabinet. Master Spas covers are built with a 5" skirt as standard.
  4. Fold direction. Note which way the cover folds so the hinge sits where you want it.

Spa Cover FAQs

How do I measure my Master Spa for a replacement cover?
Measure across the top of the spa cabinet in both directions (A × B), then confirm your fold direction. On Master Spas the other two specs are standard: a 6" corner radius and a 5" skirt. Every cover is built to your Master Spas factory specifications, so an accurate measurement guarantees a tight, heat-locking fit. Not sure? Send us your model and serial number or call 1-888-946-8882 and we'll pull the factory spec for you.
Are these genuine OEM Master Spas covers?
Yes. Every cover we sell is built to the original Master Spas factory specification for your exact model — correct dimensions, corner radius, skirt, fold and strap placement. That's the difference between a cover that seals and one that leaks heat at the edges. If your model isn't listed, we can build a custom cover to spec.
What foam density should I choose — 1.5 lb or 2.0 lb?
Both use high-density EPS foam cores. 1.5 lb is the standard, energy-efficient choice for most climates. Upgrading to a commercial-grade 2.0 lb core adds heat retention, rigidity and long-term insulation performance — a smart upgrade for heavy snow loads or cold winters.
What is a tapered core and why does it matter?
A tapered foam core — a 5"→3" (R-20) or 6"→4" (R-28) design — is thicker in the center and thinner at the edges so rain, snow and ice drain off instead of pooling. Combined with a heavy-duty vapor barrier, it's the single biggest factor in preventing a heavy, waterlogged cover.
How do I stop my cover from getting waterlogged?
Waterlogging comes from moisture reaching the foam core. Upgrading to an 8-mil vapor barrier (over the standard 4-mil) seals the foam against moisture intrusion — the leading cause of heavy covers that strain your lifter. Pair it with a tapered core and a cover lifter to keep water off the top and extend cover life.
Do covers come with a cover lifter?
Covers and lifters are sold separately so you can match the right lifter to your space and mounting. Browse our hot tub & swim spa cover lifters — including the Cover Valet Caddy and the Master Integrated 360 lift — plus cover lifter replacement parts.
What is the Axis Cover System for swim spas?
The Axis Cover System is a rolling, end-to-end swim spa cover that opens without lifting — you simply roll it up and enjoy the water. It's built to fit H2X Fitness Swim Spas and Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas.
Can I order a custom size or shape?
Absolutely. Round, triangle, oversized and non-standard shapes are all available. Start with our custom hot tub cover builder, or call 1-888-946-8882 and we'll spec it with you.
What upgrades are available?
Common upgrades include a Poly-Shield outer skin (lighter and more durable than standard vinyl), an 8-mil vapor barrier, a full-length steam stopper, commercial-grade rubber handles, reinforced hinges and extended skirts. You choose these while building your cover — start a custom cover or contact us to add them to an existing order.
How long does a made-to-order cover take?
Because every cover is built to your factory specifications, covers typically run 3–5 weeks with express delivery and 7–9 weeks standard. We stock the most popular Master Spas and Getaway sizes for faster turnaround — ask us about current lead times on your model.
